When we were up at the natural spring pools (pictures bellow) i spotted what looked like an abandoned water park. After a few hours scoping the pools i passed by the hotel to grab my board and go check out if the waterpark was skateable. When we arrived it looked like the Turkish mafia were renovating the place. The guys there were super sketchy looking but were nice enough to let us come in and take photos. When i tried to skate they got pissed saying my wheels would break the slides, not wanting to fuck with the mafia i obliged.
While exploring the outskirts of the town i came by a school and a few children curiously ran over to me to check out the toy i was holding under my arm. They pretty much dragged me into the packed school playground and within seconds i was surrounded by 50 kids screaming at me to give them my board ! ! ! The teacher on playground duty having a good laugh at the same time. I then spent the remainder of their lunch break giving them skate lessons. When the bell rang signaling the end of lunch a group of the young turkish boys ignored the bell and stayed skating in the playground until the end of school. It was amazing to see how much fun they were having with smiles from ear to ear and how quickly they were picking it up with no thoughts of fear clouding their young minds.
The chubby kid pictured bellow was really funny. When school finished he came out and started pushing all the kids around demanding he had priority to the board. When he tried to skate he ended up flat of his ass and packed school yard erupted into laughter!
After a great 2 weeks in Turkey we had another rugged night bus to deal with and then the flight back to spain via amsterdam! Back to the concrete jungle that is Barcelona . . . if u ever get the chance check out Turkey ! ! !
